This may be because I mostly watch shonen anime, where there isn't as much room for romance or deep personal character development related to sexuality, but even so it feels there is an under-representation of gay/queer characters imo.
Known gay anime characters series#
I feel that although I have watched countless anime series over the years, with hundreds of relatively unique and adequately developed characters, I have hardly seen any gay/queer characters at all.

The interesting thing about Uranus is that it is mentioned that the manga states that Uranus is neither male nor female, alluding to the fact that she may be gender-neutral. One of the spirits he meets in season two is Miku Izayoi. The ideal way for him to do so is to take each spirit on a date. To awaken the spirits power Shidou must kiss the spirit, sealing their power. Also, characters like Aoyama from MHA or the Hitachiin twins from Ouran High are out of bounds, as they simply are not gay/queer characters, but instead are 'flamboyant'(Aoyama) and 'exhibit homosexual tenancies'(the Hitachiin twins). 10 Sailor Uranus One of the most well-known lesbians in the anime is Sailor Uranus, who is in a relationship with Sailor Neptune. Released in 2014, and introduced in Date A Live 2, Shidou Itsuka is still meeting spirits. I'm looking for an anime with a character that is gay/queer who also isn't a circus animal with the sole purpose of providing some sort of amusement/comic relief through their sexuality. For example, Puri-puri prisoner from One Punch Man has a description that at one point says "aside from being homosexual" his homosexuality is most of what his character is.

I can think of some anime where there are gay/queer characters, but unfortunately that is most of what their character is about. He has long blonde hair that he ties up in a long braid and radiant blue eyes with a slender body figure that gives a feminine look. We are featuring Fox, who was born Janine Renard, not only because she is bisexual but because the entire Gargoyles show is stacked with people who are gay, bisexual, and asexual. Yaoi/Yuri is out of bounds because these genres are literally defined by their depictions of gay/queer characters. Hasuta is one of the main characters in the sci-fi and comedy anime, Haiyore Nyaruko-san He is classmates with the main character Nyaruko-san. What I mean by 'just so happens' is a character who's personality/role isn't defined by their queerness, that the existence of their not being straight is not a trope, it is subtle and known but is not all their character is about. Do you know of any anime where there is a character who just so happens to be gay/queer.
